Welcome to the Central Water and Power Research Station (CW&PRS), web site. CW&PRS established in 1916 by the then Bombay Presidency as a Special Irrigation Cell, is the premier Research and Development (R&D) organization in the field of hydraulic and allied research as a subordinate office of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India. It was established with a view to cater to the R&D needs of hydraulics and allied disciplines, which is responsive to changing global scenario and need for sustaining and enhancing excellence in providing technological solutions for optimal and safe design of hydraulic structures. We have adequate capability and expertise to undertake specific problems pertaining to water resources development projects, river training and protection, hydroelectric/ thermal/ nuclear power projects and design of coastal and offshore engineering structures and port & harbour layouts. The tools applied for this purpose, are physical hydraulic models, mathematical models and state of art equipments. Our clients are mostly from Central Government, State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, Private Sectors of India and abroad.

BRIEF PROFILE OF DIRECTOR

Dr. Mukesh Kumar Sinha obtained his graduation in Civil Engineering from IIT, Delhi, Post Graduation in Rock Mechanics from IIT, Delhi, Engineering Hydrology from University College, Galway, Ireland and Ph.D. in Disaster Management Planning pertaining to Dam Breaks. He has been associated with planning, design and detailed engineering of several water resources & hydropower projects for the last 28 years. He was Member Secretary of Indian National Committee on Hydraulic Research and also National Committee on Seismic Design Parameters for River Valley Projects. He was one of the authors of the CBIP Publication on Repair, Renovation & Life Extension of Hydro Power Projects and the BMTPC Publication on Vulnerability Atlas of India.


He has varied experience in all aspects of water resources engineering. Now, he is the Executive Member of Narmada Control Authority (NCA) which is responsible for overall coordination & management of water resources of Narmada river basin in the States of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan for ensuring compliance of NWDT Award. He has also worked as Advisor (Coordination & Monitoring) for National Water Mission which was launched as part of National Action Plan for Climate Change in respect of water conservation and efficient use of water.

He had also held the post of Sr. Jt. Commissioner (PP) in Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation for formulation and implementation of plan schemes and policies of Govt. of India on water resources. He has played active roles in drafting of National Water Policy (2012), National Water Framework Bill (2016) and Model Bill for the Conservation, Protection, Regulation and Management of Groundwater (2016). Prior to his joining as Director of CWPRS, he was working as Chief Engineer (Project Appraisal Organisation), Central Water Commission, responsible for Techno-economic appraisal of Major & Medium Irrigation and Multi-purpose Projects.
