Welcome to the Central Water and Power Research Station (CW&PRS), web site. CW&PRS established in 1916 by the then Bombay Presidency as a Special Irrigation Cell, is the premier Research and Development (R&D) organization in the field of hydraulic and allied research as a subordinate office of the Ministry of Jal Shakti Department of Water Resources,River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. It was established with a view to cater to the R&D needs of hydraulics and allied disciplines, which is responsive to changing global scenario and need for sustaining and enhancing excellence in providing technological solutions for optimal and safe design of hydraulic structures. We have adequate capability and expertise to undertake specific problems pertaining to water resources development projects, river training and protection, hydroelectric/ thermal/ nuclear power projects and design of coastal and offshore engineering structures and port & harbour layouts. The tools applied for this purpose, are physical hydraulic models, mathematical models and state of art equipments. Our clients are mostly from Central Government, State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, Private Sectors of India and abroad.

Dr.(Mrs.) V.V.Bhosekar, obtained her Bachelor’s degree and Master of Engineering (by Research) in Civil Engineering from College of Engineering, Pune. Later she completed her MS from University of Minnesota, USA and PhD from IIT Bombay. Her areas of expertise are in hydraulic modelling of Reservoir and Appurtenant Structures comprising Sediment management structures, Spillways & Energy dissipators, Canal Automation and Control Structures & Water Conductor Systems using both physical and mathematical models. She has worked on more than 50 major dam projects and has over 35 years of experience in the field of hydraulic modelling. She has worked on several projects of National and International importance such as Sardar Sarovar, Omkareshwar, Salal, Chamera Stage I, II & III, Koyna, Tehri, Polavaram, Subansiri, Teesta; Kurichu, Mangdechhu and Punatsangchu (Bhutan) and Salma dam project (Afghanistan).

Besides client sponsored projects she has worked on basic research projects for “Design of aerators for orifice spillways” and “Hydraulic design of orifice spillways”. She has published five technical memoranda. She is also the Chairperson, ISO TC113/ SC 6 on “Sedimentation”. She is a Member of various committees like Dams and Spillways Sectional Committee, WRD 9 and Hydrometry WRD 1 of Bureau of Indian Standards. She has also worked as Member of Dam Design Review Panel of Subansiri Lower Project, ArP/Assam.

She has published 106 technical papers in National and International Journals and contributed in more than 100 technical reports. She is Former Member-Secretary of Indian National Committee on Hydraulics. She is life member and President of Indian Society for Hydraulics. She is a Life Member of Institution of Engineers .
